AlphaBio Control was born out of a vision that the current way of producing food and biomaterials could, and should, be done more sustainably.

The company’s co-founders, Iain Fleming and Alfeo Vecchi worked together using the former’s business acumen and the latter’s research connections resulting in the formation of AlphaBio BioPesticides (later renamed AlphaBio Control) in 2011.

Iain and Alfeo could see the damage being done to the planet by many intensive agricultural practices for food and feed production and knew that there were realistic and effective softer chemistry alternatives that could solve these global issues. These more sustainable crop protection technologies would enable growers to produce high yields of top-quality food, whilst protecting the natural environment.

With the support of the eventual owners, De Sangosse, the company launched its first bioinsecticide, FLiPPER®, derived from olive oil in Italy and through its distribution partner, Bayer Crop Science. This was followed up by the launch of its bioherbicide, MiSSiTO® based on pelargonic acid from sunflower oil in January 2022, again in Italy.

In September 2023, De Sangosse completed its integration of AlphaBio Control into its group of companies, coinciding with the cofounders leaving, and the announcement of Marta Ruiz as the new General Manager of the company in December of that year.

And bringing our history up to date, in April 2024, AlphaBio and Bayer Crop Science announced an agreement to secure an exclusive license for a new bioinsecticide for use in arable crops, including oilseed rape and cereals.
